Sue Johns
Services for Sue Johns, 73 of Salado will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at Salado United Methodist Church, Salado. Interment will be at the Jennings Mountain Cemetery, Brownsboro, Texas at a later date.
Sue Johns died in a local nursing home on December 17, 2011.
She was born July 27, 1938 in East St. Louis, Mo. but grew up in Asherton, Texas and eventually Crystal City, Texas. She graduated from Crystal City High School in 1956. She briefly went to nurse’s training and then on to Southwest Texas State in San Marcos. After returning home for the summer she met Jerry who was teaching in Crystal City. One year later, they married and moved to Tyler.
Sue started her business career as a Land Man in the petroleum business. She was one of the few women to hold such a position.
In 1965 she and Jerry moved to Plano where she continued her career in the oil industry.
She was devoted to her family and was very involved with her son’s many activities. She also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and had a strong interest in pottery.
She and Jerry found Salado on their wedding day, 53 years ago and always wanted to come back. They retired to Salado and opened a retail business, Winnie Lee’s Pots, Prints & Pretties.
Sue and Jerry were members of the Salado United Methodist Church.
Sue is survived by her husband, Jerry, sister, Dianne Auerbach of Georgetown; two sons: Kyle and Chris of Plano.
She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Mecca, mother Oletta “Boots” Mecca and infant daughter, Kimberly Johns.
