The Taylor Ducks took Salado to extra innings, scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth to win their district game against the Eagles, despite being outhitted by the visiting team April 10.
The loss dropped Salado into a mosh pit with Lampasas and Burnet all knotted at 3-2 in district play in second place. Taylor sat alone in first place as of press time with a 4-1 district record while Llano and Lampasas are in the cellar at 1-4.
Taylor jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Designated hitter #6 led off with a single and stole second base. He scored on a double to deep left by #18. #16 followed with a double to score #18 but was left stranded when the Eagles defense put out the next two batters.
Salado tied the score in the third inning. Garrett Lightfoot knocked a double into deep left and went to third on a single by Keaton Mims. Mims stole second to put both runners in scoring position. Preston Payne flied out to deep right, allowing Lightfoot to score and Mims to go to third after tagging up. Mims would score on a passed ball before Taylor got out of the inning.
Taylor retook the lead in the sixth. After the third strike was dropped, #9 beat the throw to first. He advance on a single by #18 and scored on a single by #16 for the 3-2 lead.
Salado tied the score in the top of the seventh. Lightfoot again led off the record with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mims. He scored on a passed balled before Payne flied out to center. Cody Wolf singled and stole second to put the go-ahead run in scoring position but relief pitcher #16 got the final strikeout.
Salado pitcher Cody Wolf kept Taylor from reaching base in the bottom of the seventh to keep the score tied.
After Taylor put the Eagles out three straight in the top of the eighth, #8 led off with a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by #6. #9 took a Peyton Kyburz pitch to deep right for the walk-off double.
Wolf pitched seven innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing six hits and two earned runs. Pitching in relief, Kyburz allowed two hits and an earned run.

Salado scored three runs in the top of the first in their road game with Llano and went on to 10-run rule the Yellowjackets on April 7, winning 13-2.
With an out in the first, Preston Payne doubled. He went to third on a double by Cody Wolf and scored on a single by Jacob Little, who went to second on the throw to hold the runner at third. Chase Basham singled to score Wolf and Little before a double play ended the inning.
The Eagles added three in the third. Keaton Mims led off with a single and went to third thanks to two wild pitched. He scored on a single to deep left by Payne. Wolf hit a hard grounder to center to single, Payne scored on an error by Llano’s centerfielder. Little grounded out to the shortstap allowing Wolf to go to third. Wolf scored on an error by the left fielder.
In the fifth inning, the Llano pitcher loaded the bases by hitting Payne, walking Wolf and hitting Little. Chase Basham single to score and keep the bases loaded. Barret Snyder hit a grounder to the pitcher and all runners reached safely on the fielders choice, scoring Wolf. Zachary Marsh singled to deep left, plating Little and Basham. Colton Price grounded to the pitcher, whose errant throw allowed Price to reach and Snyder to round third and score.
Llano pitcher #14 was able to retire two batters on strikes before picking off Mims, who he had walked to load the bases, for the third out.
Salado added two more in the sixth to stretch the lead to 13-2. Wolf led off with a single and went to second on a wild pitch. He advanced on a ground out by Little, scoring on a single by Snyder. Snyder went to second on the attempted throw. Snyder scored on a single to deep right by Marsh.
Llano scored two runs in the fourth. #22 was hit by a pitch and #9 walked. #7 singled to score both runners.
Junior Varsity
Salado junior varsity Eagles took advantage of 12 hits and eight walks in a lopsided 18-5 over Llano April 7.
Recording hits were Parker Seaton, three singles, Dobbins, double and single, Cl. Kunz and Combs, two singles each, Ch. Kunz, a double and Cantu Oakes, a single each.
The JV boys lost to Taylor 8-3 on April 10. The three runs were unearned.
