Services for Thelma (Teddy) Dennis, of Salado, will be held at 2:30 p.m. July 18 at the Salado United Methodist Church. A viewing at 1:30 p.m. will precede the service with the burial following the service in the Salado Cemetery.
Dennis died July 15, 2013. She was born in Clarksville, Texas on December 27, 1923 to Basil and Lucy Bledsoe Crabtree.
She graduated from Arlington High School in 1941.
She married James (Jim) E. Dennis in January 1942 and he preceded her in death.
Following college, Jim and Teddy lived in various cities in Texas while Jim was building his exploration geologist career in the oil industry. They settled in Corpus Christi, Texas, where Teddy was active in the First United Methodist Church and the community. She served as President of the Corpus Christi Geological Society Wife’s Auxiliary and was a member of Corpus Christi Country Club, Garden Club, Study Club, and Corpus Christi Tennis Association.
Teddy’s passion was reading and educating children as displayed by a long career in the Corpus Christi Public School System as a librarian. She served as a Sunday School teacher, leader and administrator at the First United Methodist Church of Corpus Christi and served for many years as the Coordinator for the Elementary Children’s Education Department.
The couple moved to Salado in 1984 where she continued her commitment to the Methodist Church and the community volunteering many hours at the public library, Salado Chamber Auxiliary and Historical Society. Teddy was a member of the Salado United Methodist Church where she served as a Shepherd and in the Prayer Ministry.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Kay Dennis; son, James Gregory Dennis and his wife Teresa Ann Dennis; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Salado United Methodist Church.
Broecker Funeral Home in Salado is in charge of arrangements.
