Thomas Arnold overpass to be closed for three months

The I-35 mainlane closure for Salado has been postponed from tonight (Jan. 27-28) to tomorrow night (Jan. 28-29), due to the chance of ice in the forecast.

I-35 will be closed in both directions through Salado beginning at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 and ending 7 a.m. Jan. 29 in order to allow crews to demolish the Thomas Arnold bridge. 

In addition to the mainlane closures below, three crossings will be closed to expedite traffic flow on the access roads: North Main St. (exit 285), the existing Thomas Arnold bridge (exit 284), and FM 2268 at the south end of town (exit 283). This will help prevent traffic stack-ups at those exits, which can be caused by vehicles exiting the mainlanes and attempting to merge with vehicles already on the frontage roads. Frontage roads will be open, and one-way only on both sides of the highway.

Southbound traffic will exit at #285 (Salado) and reenter I-35 south of FM 2268. Traffic on the frontage road will be southbound only during the closure (see Map #1).

Northbound traffic will exit at #283 (FM 2268) and reenter I-35 just north of Thomas Arnold Road.  Traffic on the frontage road will be northbound only during the closure (see Map #1).

Upon completion of the bridge demolition, two-way traffic will be allowed on the southbound side frontage road between Main Street and FM 2268. One-way northbound traffic will be allowed on the northbound side frontage road from FM 2268 to Main Street (see Map #2).

Construction of the new Thomas Arnold Road bridge is currently expected to take about three months to complete, weather permitting.
