Staff Sergeant Thomas Wayne Owens
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Jan. 24 in Killeen, Texas, from injuries suffered from an apparent gunshot wound.
Staff Sergeant Thomas Wayne Owens, 27, whose home of record is Slidell, La., joined the military in January 2002 as a cannon crewmember and was assigned to Howitzer Battery, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood since September 2006.
Owens deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from July 2003 to February 2004 and from December 2007 to January 2009.
Owens’ awards and decorations include the three Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign service star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, four Overseas Service Ribbons, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge and Driver and Mechanics Badge with track and wheeled device.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
