The top-ranked Salado Lady Eagles shut out both of their district soccer opponents last week by the same score of 5-0.

Salado Lady Eagles snuffed the Academy Lady Bees 5-0 Feb. 12 in a home game to improve to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in district play.
Forward Sara Wilkerson led the team with two goals and one assist. Outside midfielder Katey Ewton and forward Annie Ewton both scored a goal and had an assist in the game. Forward China Saxton scored a goal. Outside midfielder Jessica Ringstaff also had an assist in the match.
“This was a good win for us because Academy has had a remarkable first season of soccer,” Coach Michael Goos said. “This well-coached team came to play and made us work for each goal.”

The top-ranked Salado Lady Eagles continued their undefeated run through district opponents with a 5-0 shut out of the Jarrell Lady Cougars on Feb. 9.
Forward Sara Wilkerson led the Lady Eagles with two goals and an assist. Forward Ashlen LaCanne also scored two goals. Forward Tyler Pierce added a goal for Salado. Outside Midfielder Rebecca Gonzales added an assist.
“Jarrell packed their defense in the box,” LaCanne said, “and once we found a way to the net the goals kept coming.”

Salado JV Lady Eagles beat the Harker Heights Lady Knights JV squad in a home soccer match Feb. 11 by the score of 2-0.
Forward Madison Matsi scored a goal for the Lady Eagles. Forward Bianca Harvey-Gonzles also scored a goal for Salado.
Defensive back Caitlyn Foster and defensive midfielder Hayley Vandeplas had excellent defensive games in the shut out effort.
“At last night’s game, we switched things up. We put girls in different positions and they stepped up to the task by working hard,” Vandeplas said. “The movement on the field was well-done, and we ended the night with a well-earned win.”
The JV girls are now 5-2-1 overall; 3-2-1 district. They play Burnet High School at home at 4 p.m. Feb. 19.

After being down by a goal in the first half of their Feb. 8 soccer match with the Harker Heights Lady Knights, the Salado JV Lady Eagles tied the score with a minute left in the period.
The JV Lady Eagles would score with 10 minutes left in the game to beat the Lady Knights JV 2-1 on the road.
Forward Bianca Harvey-Gonzales and Forward Candace Brown each scored a goal for the Lady Eagles.
Defending the ball for the Lady Eagles were midfielder Tabitha Mazo and defender Caitlyn Foster.
“In the second half, the girls returned to the field determined to win the game,” Coach Karen Ewton said. “With 10 minutes left, Candace sent a terrific shot past the Heights goalie to win the game.”
