Services for Truett Hampton, 79, were held Aug. 6 at First Baptist Church, Salado with Reverend Dr. Scott Mescher officiating.  

Clarence Truett Hampton, 79, died  July 31, 2013 at his home in Salado surrounded by his family.  Born in Ireland, Texas on August 2, 1933, he was one of four children born to Clifford Hampton, a Baptist minister, and Evelyn Pauline Elms.  After working as a clerk and soda jerk at two local pharmacies, Truett graduated in 1951 from Hamilton High School.  With a lifelong dream to become a pharmacist, Truett completed his basic college courses at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas before enrolling in Pharmacy School at the University of Texas at Austin in 1953.  His studies were interrupted, however, when he was drafted during the Korean War.  Following his military service in the army, Truett returned to Pharmacy School, receiving his pharmacy degree and license in 1959 and relocating his family to Temple soon after.  By 1970, he was able to open his own pharmacy in Temple before establishing  Medical Arts Pharmacy at a new medical clinic in Killeen, where he operated for 27 years.  Although his business was located in Killeen, Truett made his home in the Temple/Belton region throughout his pharmacy career that spanned nearly five decades.   

He married Carolyn Kay Gearhart in 1978. They lived in Belton moving to Salado 24 year ago.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Salado, where he previously taught Sunday School.   Truett was also an avid Texas Longhorn and sports fan who enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, dominos, and table tennis.  

In addition to his wife Carolyn Hampton, Truett is survived by four grown children–eldest daughter Joni Lange of Temple, Jami Hampton of Austin, Randy Hampton of Carrollton, and Todd Hyer of Belton–sister Jean Dunlop of Waco, as well as eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his daughter Jeni Kim Hampton Taitano and two brothers.
