Memorial services for Truman S. Head, 93, of Temple will be held at April 14, 2009 at Scanio Harper Funeral Home with Father Ranjan Cletus and Dick Archer officiating. Burial will be private.
Truman S. Head died April 11, 2009 in a Belton Nursing Home.
Head was born in Bluff Dale, June 2, 1915, to James A. Head and Lucy Norman Head. He grew up in Ranger and graduated from Granbury High School in 1933 and attended Ranger Jr. College. He was employed by the Texas Old Age Assistance Commission and later transferred to the Texas State Unemployment Commission. He married Elizabeth Ladwig of Killeen in 1937. She preceded him in death. He then married Tena Scanio October 9, 1949. He served in the Army Air Corps and Infantry during World War II. After working with American Desk and Manufacturing Company, he became a life insurance salesman, having worked for Southland Life, American General and Executive Life Insurance Companies. He was also a founding member of the “SO WHAT CLUB” (Seekers of wisdom, humor and truth).
Head was a member of the Lions Club, a Past Post Commander for the American Legion and a life long active member of the Heart of Texas Life Underwriters Association, the National Quality Award and frequent member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He was one of the founding members and the first president of the Heart of Texas Life Underwriters Association in 1953. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a former Knights of Columbus 4th degree member.
Head was preceded in death by two brothers Manley Head and Princeton Head; and three sisters Nedra Barnett, Lorraine Brown and Lois Bean.
Survivors include his wife Tena Head of Temple; three sons Joe Head and his wife Kay of Austin, Jerry Head and his wife Stephanie of Miramar, Florida and James Head and his wife Marianne of Humble; two daughters Janet Bandas and her husband Rick of Morgan’s Point and Jenna Akridge and her husband Wayne of Round Rock; grandchildren Kathleen Lund & husband Jensey, C.J. Schimmels and husband Kirby, J.J. Head, Jeffrey Head, John Head, Beth Gist and husband Aaron, Bonnie Sue Kirby, Edmund Bandas, Christopher Bandas, Coleman Akridge and wife Meghan and Alice Akridge; great grandchildren Kirby Schimmels, Madeline Schimmels, Shylo Schimmels, Jasmine Katrina Head, Kate Gist, Emily Gist, Shane Kirby, Jacob Bandas, Frannie Bandas, Meg Bandas, and Drew Bandas.
