Warren “Doug” Lincoln

Warren “Doug” Lincoln of Salado, TX, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, having valiantly battled cancer for over six years. 

He is survived by his loving family, wife Susan of 22 years, their four children, Aaron, Shawn, Ashley, Alex, and two grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother, Don Lincoln of Lago Vista, TX.  

Doug was born in Dallas, TX, December 3, 1949.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy E. Lincoln and Margaret A. (Robinson) Lincoln, both of Dallas.

In 1968, Doug graduated from South Oak Cliff high school in Dallas and enlisted in the Marine Corps immediately afterward.  For the last six months of his enlistment, he was a permanent member of the honor guard at Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, CA, conducting funerals for Marines who were killed in Vietnam.  Doug considered this a “spiritual” bookmark in his life.  He learned a great deal about self-discipline and leadership as a Marine.  These experiences were to be used in many other areas of his life.

In 1981, Doug started his own computer consulting business.  For the next 26 years, he worked as a free-lance software developer.  At age 56, he re-enrolled in college and completed his MBA.  In 2010, he completed his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and returned to work at the V. A. Austin Information Technology Center where he and his brother were employed.

Doug taught Bible study for eight years, was deacon in his local church, and was involved in the children’s and youth ministries.  Doug was also a dedicated Boy Scout leader for over 10 years.  For two years, he worked as a Christian counselor at the Bell County jail to help inmates develop a relationship with God and get a fresh start on life.  During his many trips to the VA Medical Center in Temple, he visited disabled and bedridden vets to provide comfort and to “give something back”.

Doug is remembered as a devoted Christian, husband, and father who loved his family with all of his heart.  He believed the family unit was God’s design for mankind’s procreation and survival.  Doug placed his family above all other earthly things and continually strove to be the best husband and father possible. Doug did not wish for others to mourn his passing, but rather they celebrate the beginning of his new life with the Creator in eternity. Doug had a wonderful life and looks forward to seeing his family another day.  

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Salado Cemetery in Salado at 10 a.m. on Oct. 18, 2013.  Following the service, refreshments and a celebration of Doug’s life will be held at First Baptist Church Salado.

In lieu of flowers, Doug requested donations be made to First Baptist Church Salado, Youth and Children’s Ministries, 210 South Main, Salado, TX 76571. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Broecker Funeral Home.
