Services for Melba Glover Kattner were held June 13 at the Presbyterian Church of Salado with Pastor Carl Thompson officiating. A visitation preceded the service.
Kattner was interred at the Perkins Cemetery in Perkins, Oklahoma on June 15.
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who was found unresponsive June 10, 2015 in his residence at Fort Hood.
With runners on all bases and no outs, Salado senior Matt Fritsch came in to close the game June 5 against Corsicana Mildred, striking out two batters, and securing the Salado Eagles’ first-ever State Championship in baseball June 5 at Dell Diamond. Kevin Jackson fielded Cory Roper’s grounder and tossed the runner out at second to secure the win for Salado, 12-8.
The Eagles held a commanding 12-4 lead with Justin Schiller pitching part of the fourth inning, the fifth and sixth innings and part of the seventh inning.
Schiller shut down Mildred in the fifth inning and helped to add three runs during their side of the frame to stretch their lead to 11-4.
Justin Schiller came in to relieve Sam Van Hoozer and allowed no runs in the fifth or sixth innings. In the bottom of the fourth, he hit the ball to the warning track for a triple, driving in one run. He then drove in two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single, which he tried to stretch into a double, being tagged out at second base.

(Austin) The Texas Senate ended the 84th Legislative session Monday, its first in 12 years under new leadership and a term that saw nine new members take office.
Funeral services for Luis Alfonso Sierra, Sr., 72, of Salado will be held 1 p.m. on June 4, 2015 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Salado, Father Aloysius Nzekwe will be officiating. Burial will follow at North Belton Cemetery.
Sierra passed away May 30, 2015 at a local hospital.
At the close of the Legislative session, State Senator Troy Fraser announced that he will not seek another term for the Texas Senate.
“It is with a heavy heart, an overwhelming sense of pride, and not an ounce ofregret, that I am announcing I will not seek another term for Texas Senate,” Sen. Fraser said this afternoon.
Memorial services for Roy Wayne “Bo” Jackson, 81, of Salado were held May 30, 2015, at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with Rev. Kenneth James officiating.
“It was the biggest preservation crisis the town had or may ever have to face,” Dr. Douglas B. Willingham said.
For decades since the 1924 fire which finally did in the two-story limestone building, the old Salado College fell into ruin and neglect.

Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died May 25, 2015 from an apparent gunshot wound.

The Casey Donahew Band will perform at Johnny’s Outback May 30. Tickets for the concert are available at Johnny’s Steaks and BBQ or online at johnnysoutback.com. Advanced general admission is $15. At the gate, tickets are $20.
