Salado Eagles varsity soccer team starts district play this week after a decisive wins over China Spring.
Salado Eagles varsity soccer team travels to Robinson Feb. 13 for a non-district game after falling to Giddings 0-1 on the road Feb. 3. The boys are 6-6 as of presstime and start district play at home against Lampasas on Feb. 17.
Going into district play, which began this week, the Salado Lady Eagles carry an undefeated record of 12-0 in soccer with a 4-0 win last week over Giddings.

At dusk and after dawn, they circle overhead and seem to have grown in numbers in the past year or so in Salado. Many Saladoans consider the black vulture and turkey vulture to be more of a nuisance than a necessity, though the large birds are nature’s garbage disposals.

AUSTIN, TX — Residents across Texas will be wearing their hearts on their sleeves, so to speak, as Friday is Wear Red Day.
Salado Eagles are 6-4 on the year and undefeated in district play with two wins after beating Smithville and Lorena last week.
Midfielder China Saxton kicked a goal in the final seconds of a tough match on the road at Lorena Jan. 27 to keep the Salado Varsity Lady Eagles’ perfect record intact last week. The following game Jan. 30 against Smithville wasn’t even close as the girls cruised to a 15-0 win.
“The girls worked hard to keep their record intact against a determined Lorena team, Coach Karen Ewton said of her now 10-0 Lady Eagles.
Saxton’s goal came on an assist from Outside Midfielder Reagan Morreale.
Also having an outstanding game in the defensive effort was Outside Midfielder Katey Ewton.
Salado blew past Smithville in a 15-0 road game win on Jan. 30.
Scoring for the girls were these: Forward Taylor Valeriano, four goals; Outside Midfielder Rebecca Gonzalez, two goals and three assists; Midfielder Sam Isbell, two goals and an assist; Morreale, two goals; Defensive mid/outside midfielder Annie Ewton, a goal and two assists; Saxton, a goal and two assists. Forwards Sara Wilkerson and Gema Vitolas, one goal each; Defensive Midfielder Blake Stephenson, one goal; Midfielder Dani Gantenbein, two assists and Outside Midfielder Jessica Ringstaff, one assist.
Goalkeeper Morgan Bird earned the shut out.
With a 3-0 shutout of China Spring Jan. 20, the Salado Lady Eagles varsity soccer team remains undefeated with a 9-0 record. They play Smithville on Jan. 30 and played Lorena on Jan. 27 after presstime for this edition.
