Haire takes Head Football Coach job at Killeen Chaparral High School

Salado Eagle Head Football Coach Alan Haire told his players this morning that he has accepted the position of Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach for the new Chaparral High School in Killeen ISD, set to open in the fall.

He leaves his hometown school after six seasons, where he has posted a record of 49-23. His Eagles won District Championships in 2017 and 2020 and were second place in 2021 behind the 4A Div. II State Champions China Spring Cougars.

SISD closes school for remainder of week, County at Level 1

With more than one in four staff absent due to COVID-19, Salado ISD Superintendent Michael Novotny announced that the schools would be closed for the remainder of the week (Jan. 19-21) with classes returning Jan. 24.

“Our COVID-19 numbers are at an all-time high with our elementary school and middle school now over 5% COVID-19 positive within the last seven days,” Dr. Novotny stated.

Thomas Arnold Elementary Garden receives $10,000 grant

Kathi Walrath Memorial Garden dedication is Aug. 27

Salado, Texas – Texas Department of Agriculture has recognized Thomas Arnold Elementary School garden as the recipient of a $10,000 Expanding 3e’s (X3e) Grant.  This grant will provide resources necessary to continue restoring the garden established by the PTO and Community partners in 2012.

The Kathi Walrath Memorial Garden will be dedicated on Friday, August 27, 9:00 am.

First Day of school sees enrollment increase by 5% at Salado ISD

Salado students returned to class Aug. 18 and Salado ISD preliminary enrollment numbers show a 5% increase this year over fall of 2020. As of Aug. 16, Salado ISD has 2,215 students enrolled, an increase of 112 students over last October’s snapshot.

Enrollment typically increases after Labor Day each year. In the past decade, Salado ISD has increased its enrollment by almost 800 students. For 2012-13, Salado ISD had 1,348 students enrolled.  [Read more…] about First Day of school sees enrollment increase by 5% at Salado ISD

Retirement reception set Aug. 30 for Burt Smith

Congratulations to Burt Smith on his retirement next Tuesday, August 31!  

Burt served as the principal of Salado High School from 2012 until 2014 and then has been the assistant superintendent of our school district since 2014.  He has a total of 30 years of experience as a teacher, coach, and administrator in public school districts.

We will have a retirement reception for Burt and his wife, Jami, at 4:00 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Salado Civic Center, located at 601 North Main Street.  All students, parents, employees, and community members are welcome to attend.

SISD candidates on police officer in school, enrollment, remote learning, main goal

On Nov. 3, Salado Independent School District voters will elect three board members to three-year terms on the Salado ISD Board of Trustees.  Candidates are Kim Bird, Troy Byrd, Savannah Hennig and Troy Smith.

Early voting continues through Oct. 30. There are several early voting locations in Bell County. On election day, Bell County registered voters may vote at any Bell County polling location, not just their home precinct. Precinct 203 voting will be at the Salado Church of Christ Activity Center, 217 Church St. in Salado.
