Mayoral candidates on Sanctuary, disannexation

The Village of Salado will elect a Mayor to a two-year term on May 7. Mayor Michael Coggin filed for a position on the ballot. Linda Reynolds has filed as a write-in candidate.

We asked the following question:

Question 1: What can the Village do, if anything, to improve the Sanctuary agreements? (200 words)

Question 2: A petition for disannexation of property that includes Sanctuary was presented to the Village of Salado, resulting in another disannexation election in November 2022. Do you support or oppose disannexation of the proposed area? Why? (200 words)

Question 3: What is your opinion of the Village parks? (200 words)

Question 4: What is your opinion of the Village municipal building? (200 words)

Question 5: What is your opinion of the Village Tourism department and Visitor Center? (200 words)

Trouble at the ballot box for Salado

Library election not on all ballots

Emergency paper ballots in Library race to be issued beginning April 26

Local election officials learned within minutes of early voting polls opening  at 7 a.m. today that there was an issue with the Salado Public Library District election, which has resulted in several registered voters in the Library District not being able to cast a ballot in that race at all.

SISD trustees to meet March 4 to hire new Head Football Coach

Westerberg is unanimous pick of interview committee for head football coaching job

After 40 years, it looks like Texas coaching legend Tom Westerberg is heading back to his hometown Salado.

Superintendent Michael Novotny told Salado Village Voice that Salado ISD trustees will meet 4:30 p.m. March 4 to hear his recommendation to hire Westerberg as the Head Football Coach of the Salado Eagles, a team he played for as quarterback 40 years ago.

Village sends $1 to Sanctuary for Public Improvement District

Salado Mayor Michael Coggin reached forward on the dais of the Village of Salado Board of Aldermen during their Jan. 20 meeting and held up a dollar bill.

He then proposed that the Village establish a Public Improvement District for the Sanctuary for a total of that $1, with a tax rate of 0.000000001¢  per $100 valuation. “This should complete our obligations with the PID Sanctuary agreements,” he said.
