Fellers Yarbrough, Elva O. “Bobbie”

Yarbrough passes away August 1

Elva O. “Bobbie” Fellers Yarbrough, 87, of Salado, died at her residence Aug 1, 2003.

Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Roy Smith and Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery, south of Belton.

Yarbrough was born to T.A. and Lillie Myrtle Vaden Adams in Bland on Jan. 11, 1916. She was a resident of Bell County most of her life. She married J.B. Fellers on Dec. 8, 1932. He preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1980. She married Clyde Yarbrough on Deb. 6, 1991. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 2002.

She had been a church song leader for more than 50 years. She was a member of Lawler Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, A.M. “Johnny” Adams of Salado; one sister, Alma Rene Hamrick of. Salado; three stepchildren; and several nieces. neph­ews, great nieces and eat nephews.

England, Donna Sue

Donna Sue England passes away home July 1

Donna Sue England, 54, of Salado, died at her resi­dence July 1, 2003.

Graveside services were held July 5 at the Salado Cemetery, with Rev. Bobby Ellis officiating.
She was born to Ray and Jessie Ewing England in Beaumont on November 21, 1948. She had been a resident of Salado for the past 29 years. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her parents. Ray and Jessie England of Salado; one sister, Rae Anne Sloan of Salado; and paternal grand­mother, Ezell England of Salado.

Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton was in charge of arrangements.

Willess, Jane

Wllless dies In Temple Hospital

Jane Willess, 63, of Belton, died in a Temple hospital June 16, 2003.
Funeral services were held June 19 at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Marshall John­son officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, south of Belton. She was born to Doug and Ethel Woolsey Can­nady in Albion, OK on April 25, 1940. She mar­ried Robert “Bob” Witless in Tuskahoma, OK on May 14, 1959. She had been a resident of Bell County for the past 41 years. She was employed with the Caf­eteria Department of the Salado Independent School Distict.

Survivors include her husband Robert “bob” Witless of Belton; mother, Ethel Cannady Tallant of Albion. OK: one son, Robert Willess of Rose­bud; two daughters, Fran­cie McLaughlin of Salado and Robie Burr of Belton; teo brothers, Evert Can­nady and Albet Cannady, both of Albion, OK; two sisters, Lestena Gott of Eddy and Charles Kight of Tahhma, OK; six grand­children and two great­-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Charles Cannady; and one sister, Elsie Reamy.

Memorials are requested to the Ronald McDonald House, 2415 S. 47th St., Temple, 76504.

Hill, Henry Clay “H.C.”

Hill passes away at age 78

Henry Clay “H.C.” Hill. 78. of Salado, died in a Temple hospital. June 16. 2003.
Graveside services were held June 19 at the Salado Cemetery with Minister Joe Keyes officiating.

He was born to Clay and Lelan Hunter Hill in Bell County on Jan. 18, 1925. He graduated from Salado High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, being stationed in Korea. He ranched near Salado most of his hfe. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include one sister, Elaine Hill Ory of Salado; and two nephews, Bill and Richard Ory, both of Salado. He was preceded in death by his parents and one-half sister, Wanda Pope.

Billingsley, Hazel Mae

Billingsley passes away June 14

Hazel Mae Billingsley, 66, of Salado passed away June 14, 2003 at her residence.

Funeral services were held June 17 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Salado. Burial was in Emerald Hills Cemetery in Kenedale.

She was preceded in death her parents Cause and Henry Gone, four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband Joe L. Billingsley of Salado; three sisters, Ora Russell of Mineral Wells, Mary Jo Young of Crowley, and Nell Autrey of Houston; son, Jim Porter of League City; daughters, Tammy Porter of Houston and Kimberly LeJeune of Like Charles, LA; eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Sheryl Ferguson of Fort Worth, Vickie Prehoditch of Austin and Gary Billingsley of Austin.

Combs, Sr., Anthony “Tony”

Former Saladoan Combs passes away April 26

Anthony “Tony” Combs, Sr., of Alto, M and formerly of Salado died April 26, 2003 in Ruidoso, NM. He was born on Aug. 24, 1951 m Richmond, CA to William G. Comb and Mary Louise Thompson, who preceded him in death.

Memorial services were held April 30 at the Son­terra Fire Station.

He served as Chief of the Bonito Fire Depart­ment. He was a resident of Alto, NM since moving from Salado in 1998. Prior to becoming an indepen­dent contractor he served eight years in law enforce­ment. He was in the Navy during the Vietnam era.

He is survived by his wife Peggy of Alto, NM; his sons, Anthony G. Combs, Jr., “Crickett’ of Salado, Jeffrey A. Combs of Salado, Michael H. Comb of Salado, Kevin M. Comb of Pacheco, CA, Timothy B. Combs of Salado, Jeremiah Z. Combs of Alto, NM; two step-sons, Adam Phelps of Houston and Steven Phelps of Granbury; three broth­ers. Dwights Combs of Rosepine, LA, While Combs of Rosehill, KS, and Dan Combs, of Fairfield, CA and one sister, Melinda Combs of Concord, CA and 10 grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to the Tony Combs Memorial Fund, C/O City Bank, 1096 Mechem, Ruidoso, NM 88345.

Hanks, Sr., Billie

Hanks, Sr. passes away at 86

Billie Hanks, Sr., of Salado and San Angelo, passed away April 25, 2003, at the age of 86.
He was born to Don Hanks and Bulah Hudson on November 9, 1916, in San Angelo, TX.

Hanks served his coun­try in World War II as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He was a rancher in West Texas, a partner in Billie Hanks Enterprises and built the Santa Rita Wool Company.

Hanks served on the Board of Directors of the International Evangelism Association Advisory Board, the Southwestern Baptist Theological Semi­nary, was the Fund Rais­ing Chairman for the Rio Concho Manor, and helped in the early development of the Ft. Concho Museum. He was a Founding Donor to the West Texas Ranch for Christ in Blackwell, TX.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in San Angelo and the Caleb Sunday School Class, and attended the First Baptist Church of Salado when here.

Hanks is survived by his wife of 62 years, Freda Nutt Hanks of Salado and San Angelo; one son, Billie Hanks, Jr., of Salado; one daughter, Dianne Hanks Graham, of Austin; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Wigley, Lance Rivers

Services held for Lance Wigley

Services for Lance Rivers Wigley, 20 of Salado were held 2 p.m. April 22, in the Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Johnson offici­ating. Burial was in the Cedar Valley Cemetery.

Lance Wigley died April 19, 2003 in Abilene from an automobile acci­dent.

He was born on June 25, 1982 in Abilene to Kenny and Patti Wigley. He attended Salado schools. He worked as a mechanic and was a member of the American Muscle Racing Club. He was also a member of Grace Baptist Church in Salado.

Survivors include his parents Kenny and Patti Wigley, of Salado; one brother, Jeremy Wigley of Salado; paternal grandparents, William and Nelta Wigley of Salado; maternal grandmother Patsy Alexander, of Rogers.

Wigley, Adam Arvis

Services held for Adam Wigley

Services for Adam Arvis Wigley, 22, of Salado, were held 2 p.m. April 22 in the Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Valley Cemetery.

Adam Wigley died April 19, 2003 in Snyder, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born Jan. 22, 1981, in Abilene, to Kenny and Patty Wigley. He grad­uated from Salado High School while serving in the United States Marines, and married Shawna Cunning­ham on Aug. 4, 200 I in Salado. He was a custodian at the Copperas Cove Inde­pendent School District.

He was a member of the Salado Volunteer Fire Department, the American Muscle Racing Club and Grace Baptist Church in New Port, North Carolina.

Survivors include his wife, Shawna Wigley of Salado, his parents Kenny and Patti Wigley of Salado, one brother, Jeremy Wigley of Salado, paternal grandparents William and Nelta Wigley of Salado, and maternal grandmother Patsy Alexander, of Rogers.

Cutler, Morene Parten

Morene “Mo” Cutler, age 92, passes away at residence March 14, memorial March 20

Morene Parten Cutler, 1911-2003, passed away March 14, 2003 at her home in Salado.

Morene “Mo”, as she was known to friends and family, was born July 27, 1911, to Lofie Mae and Bedford T. Parten of the Nash Community near Waxachie. Mo was edu­cated in the public schools of Waxahachie, and in 1927, she was elected the first Queen of Waxahachie High School. Upon gradua­tion from the University of Texas, she pursued a career in Interior design, first as Assistant to the Director of the New York School of Interior Decorating and then as Consulting Inte­rior Decorator for the HiIton Hotel chain where she worked across the country on the on the chain’s exten­sive line of hotels. There­after, Mo pursued a private design practice in New York City, where her cli­ents included dignitaries like Hattie Carnegie, R.J. Reynolds and Clare Booth Luce. During that time, she was also a frequent radio lecturer and authored numerous magazine arti­cles on interior design topics.

In 1954, Mo married Robert W. Cutler, a noted New York architect. She retired from active design practice and devoted her talents and energies to civic and charitable work. In New York, Mo founded the Auxiliary Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and organized the Doric Debutante Coali­tion to raise the schol­arships for students m financial need. She also covered news for the F.W. Dodge Corporation at the annual convention of the American Institute of Architects, which Bob served as presidents. She also served as a trustee for the Central Texas Area Museum and the Ellis Coun­try Historical Museum and Art Gallery. In 1964, she founded the Texas Blue­bonnet Committee, which encouraged the planting of bluebonnets, the map­ping of blue bonnet trail, and sponsorship of blue bonnet related projects. The Committee is still active today.

In 1972, the Cutlers set­tled in Salado, where Mo remained active in civic and charitable affairs. She was named a Texas Good­will by Governors Daniel, Connally, Smith and Bris­coe. In 1976, she was named Salado’s Bicenten­nial Chairman and was a founding member of the Salado Chamber of Com­merce Auxiliary.

Cutler was preceded in death by her husband, Bob. She is survived by her sister, Betsy Hatchell of Tyler, nephew, Mike Hatchell and wife, Molly of Tyler, and grand neph­ews, David Hatchell of San Prancisco, Christo­pher Hatchel of Charlot­tesville, VA, Ray Burford and John Burford of Nacogdoches, Bill Bur­ford of Sag Harbor, NY, and Bob Burford of Rich­ardson. Mo’s last years were also enriched by the care and attention of Dora Aguinaga, Marc Agui­naga and Gilbert and Julia DeLeon, plus the guidance of advisors, Bill Strokes, Dr. Ramiro Pena and Jim Bowmer.

A service will be 3 p.m. March 20 at the St. Francis Episcopal Church in Temple, followed by burial in Salado Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the family home following the services.
