Delahoya, Maria

Delahoya passes away Oct. 19

Maria Delahoya, 44, of Salado, died at her resi­dence Oct. 19, 2003.

Funeral services were held Oct. 24 at St. Ste­phen’s Catholic Church in Salado with Father Charles Davis officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery in Belton.

She was born to Ursulo and Benita Herrera Soto in Durango, Mexico on April 2, 1959. She married Juan Delahoya in Durango on May 9, 1981. She had been a resident of Bell County for the past 13 years. She was a member of St. Ste­phen’s Catholic Church in Salado.

She is survived by her husband, Juan Delahoya of Salado; sons, Cristo Delahoya and Juan F. Delahoya, both of Salado; daughter, Reina Delahoya of Salado; parents, Ursulo and Benita Soto, of Durango, Mexico; broth­ers, Alfredo Soto and Javier Soto, both of Oak­land, CA; and sisters, Sofia Soto, Eliverta Soto, and Candelaria Soto, all of Durango, Mexico.

Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton was in charge of arrangements.

Hansen, Jon A.

Hansen, 50, passes away Oct. 26 in Temple

Jon A. Hansen, of Salado, passed away from natural causes Oct. 26 in a Temple hospital. He was 50 years old.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Reverend Alan Struckmeyer offici­ating. Burial will follow Oct. 29 in Bellwood Memorial Park.

Hansen was born March 26, 1953 in Larned, Kansas, to Elmer R. and Dorothy Murray Hansen. He graduated from Larned High School in 1972, after which he moved to Temple.

He married Deborah K. Ochs on June 28, 1975 in Temple. Hansen was employed for over 10 years by Performance Food Group as the purchasing manager of the meat division. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Temple.

Hansen was an avid golfer, hunter and fisher­man who enjoyed music and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah K. Hansen, of Salado; one son, Brent Edward Hansen, of Salado; one daughter, Keri Lynn Hansen, of Salado; two brothers, Ronald G. Hansen, of Bolivar, Mis­souri, and Jeff L. Hansen, of Arlington, Texas; and one sister, Carolyn Eich­man, of Dodge City, Kansas.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2109 W. Avenue H, Temple, TX 76504.

Casey, Sr., Wayne F.

Casey passes away at age 81

Wayne F. Casey, Sr., 81, of Salad died Oct. 14 2003 in a Temple hospital.

Services were held Oct. 18 at the Salado Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. O.B. Casey officiating. Burial followed in the Salad Cemetery with military honors.

Casey was born Feb. 26, 1922 in Temple to James F. And Linda Walker Casey.

During World War II, he served in the Army with Company I, 143 Infantry, 36th Division and during the Korean conflict with the 24th Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was discharged from the Army with the rank of Master Sergeant.

On Dec. 16, 1944, he and Lois Woolley were married in Temple. After his military service, Casey worked in Civil Service at Ft. Hood for over 20 year, after that he was a carpenter in Bell County.

His famous hobby was fishing. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, C.M. Casey.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Casey of Salad; son Wayne F. Casey, Jr. of Belton; brothers, O.B. Casey of Oklahoma and Albert Casey of Troy; sisters, Evelyn Fritz of Quitman and Frances Tippit of Houston; seven great-grandchildren.

Stricker, Donald “Doc”

Stricker passes away Sept. 28

Donald “Doc” Stricker, 63, of Salado, died in a Waco hospital, Sept. 28, 2003.

Memorial servies will be held 10 a.m. Oct. 2 at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Skip Blancett officiating. The body was cremated.

He was born to Henry and Mary Hackbush Stricker in Pilot Point on March 31, 1940. He grew up in Waco and Los Ange­les, CA, and lived in Houston and Austin, prior to moving to Salado. He served in the U.S. Army. Prior to owning his own business, Doctor Don’s Fertilization, he worked many years for Brown and Root in Houston, traveling extensively in Southeast Asia, Saudi Arabia, Bah­rain and Europe. He mar­ried Carrol Snow on May 20, 1988. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He also held membership in the Scottish Rite and was a Shriner.

Survivors include his wife, Carrol Stricker of Salado; and one stepdaugh­ter, Randi Rader of Salado. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carolyn Shores.

Memorials are requested to be sent to the Doc Stricker Scholarship Fund, C/O Salado ISD, PO Box 98, Salado, TX 76571.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Oct. 1 at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton.

Glasscock, Jr., David “Dave” Dale

Glasscock passes away in Temple Hospital Sept. 12

David “Dave” Dale Glasscock, Jr., 39, of Salado died Sept. 12, 2003 in a Temple hospital. Memorial services were held at the Glasscock home Sept. 16.

He was born on March 13, 1964 in Fort Worth to David Dale Glasscock, Sr. and the late Nancy Walker Glasscock. He graduated from Grapevine High School in 1982. He later attended Texas Chris­tian University and grad­uated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Business degree. He was also a long­time member of the TCU Frog Club and the TC Alumni Club. He moved to Salado in 1989.

He married Becky Bond on May 3, 1997. He was a former employee of Farm Bureau Insurance Com­pany. In 1999, he went to work as an Investment Broker for A.G. Edwards, where he was employed at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Glasscock of Salado; his father, David Dale Glasscock, Sr. of D’Hanis; his sisters, Dr. ShelIey Wood and husband, Rick of Rancho Santa Mar­garita, CA and Janet Shir­ley of Corona, CA.

Naylor, James W.

Naylor passes away at age 80

James W. Naylor, age 80, of Salado, died Satur­day, September 6, 2003 in a Temple hospital.
Services were held Sept. 9 at the Salado Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Bergman and Rev. Brian Dunks officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.

Jams was born July 1, 1923 in McLennan County near McGregor, the son of Cecil C. and Dovie Whit­more Naylor.

He retired from Central Freight Lines after 37 years. He married Ruby Sonnen­burg in Temple on January 26, 1945. They have lived in Salado since 1989.

James was a very active member of several Lions Clubs and presently a member of the Salado Lions Club. He received an award for 50 years of perfect attendance in the Lions Clubs. He served two terms as a member of the board of directors for the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. James was also a member of the First Bap­tist Church of Salado.

His parents and one sister, Marie Vick, pre­ceded him in death. Survi­vors include his wife, Ruby Naylor of Salado; four sis­ters, Mary F. McGuire of Temple, Daisy M. Gregory of Oklahoma City, Jeannie Davis of Harker Heights, and Louese Watkins of Belton; and one brother, Bernie Naylor of Killeen.

Sherk, Helene

Sherk passes in her home Sept. 4

Helene Sherk, 84, of Tuscon, AZ and formerly of Salado, died Sept. 4, 2003 at her home with her daughter, Mary Lou by her side.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Sept. 10 at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 5001 Hickory Rd, Temple. Burial will follow at Salado Cemetery.

She died peacefully after four years with Myelodys­plastic Syndrome, during which time she was treated with transfusions made possible by the generosity of countless blood donors . The family request that those wishing to honor her memory may do so by donating blood regu­larly and signing up for the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou and husband, Kenneth Iserson of Tucson; brother, Robert Seyler of Oregon; two sis­ters, Zelma McKinlay of Aberdeen, WA and Bar­bara Orwick of Corydon, IN; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wil­liam McKean Sherk, and daughter, Anne Marie.

Jackson, Winston Dale

Jackson passes away at age 83

Winston Dale Jackson, 83, of Cedar Park passed away Aug. 21, 2003. Service were held Aug. 24 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Burial was at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

He was born on Jan. 27, 1920 in Mexia. He was a veteran of European The­ater of World War II, retired from Shell Chemical Plant in Deer Park after 30 years and moved to his creek house in Salado in 1983, until moving to The Pointe in Cedar Park along with his wife. He and his wife were members of the First Baptist Church of Salado for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annetta Marie; his son, James and daughter-in-law, Jeri Lynn Jackson of Lago Vista; grandchildren, Neal and Becky Schneider of Round Rock, Kevin and Michelle Jackson of Leander, and Jennifer Bargsley of Longview; great-grandchildren, Andrew Schneider of Round Rock, Madison Jackson of Leander and Emily Bargsley of Longview.

He is preceded in death by hi son, David Wesley Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer Association.

Hodge, Claude Bernice (C.B.)

Old-time Salado rancher, philanthropist C.B. Hodge passes away at age 77

Services for Claude Ber­nice (C.B.) Hodge will be 10 a.m. Aug. 21 at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Grady Brittain, Rev. Skip Blancett and Rev. Billie Hanks, Jr. officiat­ing. Burial will be in Salado Cemetery. Hodge died Aug. 18 in a Belton nursing home.

C.B. was born in Prairie Dell, Texas to Claude and Bernice Knight Hodge on August 1, 1926. He moved with his family to Salado in 1931. C.B. grew up in Salado and graduated from Salado High School.

He enjoyed and loved. his grandchildren. The youth of the area were always a priority in his life.
He participated as a founding board member for the establishment of the Bell County Expo Center for the youth of Bell County. He was a charter member of the Salado Youth Fair Boosters and sponsored numerous youth soccer and baseball teams. He was a tireless supporter of the Bell County Youth Fair Livestock Auction. He donated land to the com­munity of Salado for the formation of a youth sports complex. He was awarded the 4-H Club Alumni Rec­ognition Award an adult leader.

Salado was his home. He served the community as President of the Salado Chamber of Commerce in 1964, as a Salado School Board trustee and as a trustee for the Salado Methodist Church. He was a director and organizer of the Salado National Bank. He served for many years on the board of the Central Texas Area Museum. He donated land to the Salado Cemetery Association, to international Evangelism and to the Salado Water Supply Corp.

C.B. Hodge was a cattleman. He was a charter member of the National Cattleman’s Association and he was a member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and American Quarter Horse Association.

He owned and operated C.B. Hodge Livestock Co, Inc. He was a promoter of beef and loved ranching all his life.

In the 1960s he was on the board of the National Sheep Council and a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Asso­ciation. He also served on the Edwards Aquifer Research Committee Advi­sory Board.

He, with his wife Mary, owned and operated C.B. Hodge Feed and Grain until 1957. In 1959 he was named Outstanding Young Fanner of Bell County. In 1960 he was named Out­standing Young Farmer by the Temple Jaycees. He was cited as a conservation model for managing the Claude Hodge Estate and was given the Top Fanner award by the Belton Lions Club in 1961. He was named the outstanding reclamation farmer for the Little River and San Gabriel Soil Conservation Service.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother in law, Jim and Maxine Howerton.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hodge of Salado; two sons, Claude Hodge and wife Myrta, Glenn Hodge and wife Gloria; one daughter, Rita Zbranek and husband Randy; eight grandchil­dren, Shane Price of Austin, Marisa Conley and Joey of Galveston,Ashley Zbranek of Salado, Justin Hodge of Houston, Ryan Hodge and wife Stacy of Salado, McKayla Hodge of Salado, Barry Hodge of Galveston and Diedra Hodge of Salado.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Aug. 20 at Doss­man Funeral Home.
Donations-in lieu of flow­ers can be sent to the Salado Youth Association/PO Box 2971 Salado, TX 76571, or to the Salado Methodist Church Building Fund/PO Box 771 /Salado, TX 76571.

Lankford, Ima Brown

Lankford age 93 passes away

Funeral services for Ima Brown Lankford, 93, of Salado, were held Aug. 11, 2003 at Dossman Funeral Chapel in Belton with Rev. Bobby Ellis officiating.· Bi.trial followed at Rest­haven Cemetery.

Lankford died Aug. 8, 2003 at her home.

She was born Nov. 26, 1909 in Corn Hill to David and Ider Hicks Brown. he married Rev. Thomas J. Lankford on Dec. 4, 1926 in Georgetown. She was a life long resident of Bell County. She was a member of Cedar Knob Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 8, 1986; one son, T.J. Lank­ford in 1998 and grandson, Kenny Lankford in 1976.

Survivors include one son, Doyle Lankford of Salado; six grandchildren and several great-grandchil­dren.
