Junior Kole Hearne turned in one of his best career performances with 21 points to lead the Salado Eagles past the Hempstead Bobcats in the Area round of the 2A basketball playoffs. The Eagles will face the winner of the Academy-Marlin matchup in the Regiona Quarterfinal round.

Lady Eagles sweep Cameron in three
Salado Lady Eagles beat the Cameron Lady Yoe in a three straight sets, battling back and forth in the first two and running away in the third set.
Lady Eagles 1-2 in district
Salado Lady Eagles lost two district games last week, falling in a highly-contested five-set match to Florence and losing in four to Lexington on Sept. 20. The girls will host Cameron Sept. 27. The girls traveled to Rogers on Sept. 24, but the game was after press time.

Salado Lady Eagles swept the Academy Lady Bees to win the opening match of district play, winning at home, 25-20, 25-8 and 25-19 on Sept. 13.

Salado Lady Eagles handed the 5A Temple Lady Cats a four-set defeat Sept. 3 to win their first home match under coach Tara Hatfield, winning 25-13, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21.

Board names new AD, Head Football Coach
Brent Graham will start his new job as Salado I.S.D. Athletic Director and Head Football Coach on April 1. Salado ISD Trustees voted unanimoulsy to hire Graham during a called meeting 7 p.m. March 25.
AD resigns
Talbott resigns as AD
Salado ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Glenn Talbott resigned his position Feb. 13, effective at the end of his contract on June 30.
Talbott leaves the district after three years as AD and head football coach and nine years in Salado schools. In his three years as head football coach, Salado Eagles were 8-22.

Lady Eagles face off in round one of playoffs
Salado Lady Eagles will face the Bruceville-Eddy Lady Eagles in the first round of the playoffs on Monday Feb. 11 at Gatesville High School at 7:00 pm.
Salado Lady Eagles finished third in district after a three-game skid with losses to Jarrell, Academy and Cameron.

Salado Lady Eagles lost a tightly-contested road game to the Cameron Lady Yoe 50-51 on Feb. 4.
The teams fought back and forth throughout the first half with Cameron taking a narrow 20-19 margin to the lockers.
Cameron built a nine-point lead of 35-26 midway through the third quarter, before the Lady Eagles went on a 10-1 run to tie the score at 36 with 5:56 left to play. The Yoe then scored five unanswered points in the next minute of play. Salado scratched its way to a 45-45 tie with 1 minute left in the game.
Lady Yoe took advantage of a three-point shot and free throws to hold on to a 51-47 lead with seconds left in the game.
Ashley Adams hit a three with no time left in the game, but Salado fell short.
The girls shot just over 50 percent at the free throw line, going 15-for-29.
Meredith Ward led the Lady Eagles with 16 points.
Taryn Kornegay followed with 9 points.
Also scoring for Salado were Jaylee Sebek, Ashley Adams and Taylor Atwood, all with 7 points each and Payton Dreitz and Carmella Perez, 1 point each.

Ashley Adams scored 6 of her 16 points in the first quarter to lead the Lady Eagles to 12-9 first quarter lead. Salado lost the lead in the second scoring 6 and missing four free throws to enter the half trailing 18-19. The Lady Eagles scored 11 points in the third to trail 29-31 going into the fourth. Salado was outscored 15-16 in the fourth for a 44-47 loss.
Ashley Adams led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 16 points. Followed by Carmella Perez, 10 point.
Also scoring for Salado were Meredith Ward, 9 points; Jaylee Sebek, 7 points; Payton Dreitz, 2 points.
