Organization kicks off fundraising effort
The Central Texas Area Museum (www.saladoscottishfestival.com) announces the 2016 dates for the 55th Annual Scottish Gathering and Highland Games Nov. 11-13 in Salado.
Heralding all things Scottish, this landmark event is the oldest Scottish festival in Texas. It has been sponsored continuously by the Central Texas Area Museum since 1961.
“We are very proud of the ongoing success of this event as well as numerous other programs the Museum has supported for over five decades,” says Scott Fletcher, the Museum’s interim president.
“Our Board of Directors recently approved the launch of a Friends of the Museum fund-raising campaign (www.gofundme.com/friendsofctam) to support the continuation of Museum events and programs,” Fletcher added.
Like many other local businesses, the Museum has been financially challenged during the past few years by the ongoing construction along I-35, the Salado Creek floods, and the closing of the Stagecoach Inn for remodeling, Fletcher says, “but we are alive and well at the Museum and look forward to exciting days ahead thanks to the generous support from people throughout Texas and across the country.”
In addition to the Gathering that draws thousands of visitors to Salado each November, the Museum houses permanent exhibits on the history of the Salado area, a research library of historic books and documents, a large meeting room available for rental, and the Wee Scots Gift Shop. The Museum and Gift Shop are open free of charge year-round.

The Central Texas Area Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1959 to preserve the pioneer history of Central Texas and its colorful cultural diversity. The Museum houses artifacts of early frontier days in this region as well as a library of books and papers that document the settlement and heritage of the area. The Museum is located in a 130-year-old rock building on South Main Street in downtown Salado, across from the historic Stagecoach Inn.
