Elgin outguns Salado 15-11

March 4, 2016 by Tim Fleischer Leave a Comment

Eagles 11

Elgin 15

Elgin Wildcats scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth, tallying six hits in that frame alone to overcome a hefty seven-point deficit and to go on to win 15-11 over the visiting Salado Eagles on March 1.

Elgin had 12 hits in the night, spreading them across four Salado pitchers. Peyton Kyburz was issed the loss, pitching three innings and giving up seven runs on six hits. He struck out two batters.

Kade Maedgen gave up two hits and three runs while getting one out on a strikeout. Parker Seaton allowed three runs on two hits and struck out two. Colton Stolc allowed two runs on two hits. Each pitcher walked one batter.

Salado had seven hits on the night, led by Maedgen who had one hit, an RBI and scored a run.

It looked as if Salado would notch a win on the road when the Eagles scored six runs in an error-filled third inning and two in the fourth, thanks to two more errors.

With one out in the third, Preston Payne doubled to right. Cody Wolf was hit by the pitcher and Drew Dobbins singled to load the bases. Grant Taylor reached on an error and a second error allowed Garrett Lightfoot to reach. A third error put Ryan Oakes on base. Maedgen singled to deep left.

Salado added three runs in the sixth on two errors and a wingle by Lightfoot.

Tied at 11, Elgin scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away. Neither team scored in the seventh.
