October 16, Geraldine Alonzo — Mama — was born August 19, 1923 in Pontiac, Michigan, to Elda and Arthur Newmarch. She was so tiny, she wasn’t expected to live long. But Grandma put her on a hot water bottle, and somehow she fought and worked hard all her 97 years of living.

She passed away on  October 16, 2020.

Geraldine Alonzo

Mama raised four children, and did her best to get them to church twice every Sunday, Wednesday night prayer meetings, and  summer Bible School.

With her husband, Eleazer Alonzo, she built their house in Michigan, only to move to Indianapolis, just as the house was completed.

When she wasn’t working at a variety of jobs, she planted gardens, crocheted tablecloths, bedspreads,  and even her youngest daughter’s wedding dress.

Once we were all out of the house, she spent as much time as possible fishing.

Thirty years ago, she moved to Salado after selling her home on Old Mission, outside Traverse City, Mi.

She leaves behind three daughters and families, who will always remember to change the oil, check the tires, and plan ahead.

A private family burial will be at a later date. Mama’s final resting place will be with the Newmarch/Piltz family, in the Oakwood Cemetery,  at the base of Old Mission Peninsula, Traverse City, Michigan.
