Gus McRae statue now greets visitors on Salado’s Main Street
By Tim Fleischer
Editor-in-Chief
Salado’s Main Street has been the Main Street of Texas forever, it seems. It was the Old Military Road and then Highway 81 before I-35 was ever conceived. It was a feeder trail on the Chisholm Trail during the cattle drives that links the image of Texas with that of the Longhorn and the Cowboy.
Now, thanks to John Barclay and Salado artist Ronnie Wells, Salado’s Main Street is further connected to the mythos of Texas and the Texas cowboy.

Salado Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 110 N. Main St. at about 4:40 a.m. to find the building completely engulfed in flames. The fire did not spread to other structures on the property, which houses Wild Angels Boutique. The fire fighters were able to save the building next door as flames had spread to the roof and attic of the neighboring property. Main Street was blocked off at the intersections of Thomas Arnold and Blacksmith Rd. Fire Chief Jim Franz told Salado VIllage Voice that he had not yet determined the cause of the fire.

Local man seeks bone marrow transplant for multiple sclerosis
By Tim Fleischer
Editor-in-Chief
Walt Tollefson needs our help.
The long-time Saladoan is seeking a specialized treatment not currently available in the United States to halt the progression of the multiple sclerosis that he was diagnosed with several years ago. The treatment is a bone marrow transplant that utilizes the patient’s own hematopoietic stem cells rather than the marrow of a matching donor.
In layman’s terms, the hematopoietic stems cells are harvested from the person and are used to restore the normal hematopoiesis of the patient after that patient has been exposed to high dose chemotherapy delivered to aim immunosuppression.
