SHS Speech, Debate teams add points for TFA

     The Salado High School Speech and Debate Team competed at the La Vernia TFA/TOC Meet on Sept. 6-7 where 44 schools with 1,212 entries participated in the meet.

BCESD #1 proposes $.098277 tax rate

Bell County Emergency Services District #1 will hold a public hearing 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Salado Fire Department, 3520 FM 2484 for a proposed tax rate of $0.098277 per $100 valuation.

BoA mulls sewer hook-ups, permit fees, advisory boards

Village of Salado aldermen unanimously adopted Ordinance 2024-18 to require properties outside the municipal limits that request sewer service to voluntarily annex into the Village and to pay sewer impact fees in order to receive those services.

Village sets 48.60¢ tax rate, adopts FY 2025 budget

Following an Aug. 22 public hearing on the FY 2025 budget and an Aug. 26 public hearing on the tax rate, Village of Salado aldermen unanimously adopted the budget and set the tax rate at $0.4860 per $100 valuation. The tax rate is composed of $0.3019 for maintenance and operations and $0.1841 for debt service costs.

First Baptist Church of Salado celebrates 160th anniversary

First Baptist Church of Salado Historian

The congregation of First Baptist Church of Salado celebrated its 160th anniversary Sunday, May 26, 2024 during the morning worship service.  A beautiful floral arrangement of red, yellow, and white carnations sat on the altar table.    The names of the 11 founding members were printed on the front cover of the church bulletin.   Their names are Jas. L. Smith, David F. Hair, Harvey Chamberlain, Mrs. Nannie D Reed, Mrs. Nellie Wemott, Mrs. Sarah Hanford, Miss Rachel Austin, Miss Eva Cockrill, Miss Mary L Cearnals, Miss Nannie Wilkinson, and Miss Sallie Wilkinson.

Porch and Planet Festival moves indoors due to weather

The Second Annual Salado Porch and Planet Festival will be held on April 20 at a variety of Salado locations. The event, organized by Salado’s Music Friendly Community Advisory Board, will provide an afternoon of music, food, Kid Friendly, and Earth Day activities where residents and visitors can stroll the streets the sidewalks, visit various sites and businesses while enjoying the streets of Salado.

Lady Eagles’ soccer season ends in overtime loss

In the 88th minute of the 4A state semi-final soccer match between the Salado Lady Eagles and the Boerne Lady Greyhounds, Kailey Stringfellow took a pass from Sophia Namvar near the corner of the penalty box and eked it past Cambry Edmondson to put the Greyhounds up 2-1 in overtime.

Lady Eagles headed to State soccer tourney

Salado Lady Eagles are making their third trip to the 4A State soccer tournament after they beat Life Waxahachie 2-1 in the Region 1-4A Championship Sat. April 6.

Jane Wilmer turns 100 on April 3

The former “Queen of Salado,” Jane Wilmer, is turning 100 on April 3.  Although she relocated to California two years ago, she misses her many Salado friends.  Her children are having a birthday party for her on April 3rd and were hoping some of those friends would  send her birthday cards for that date.

SISD Bond Advisory Committee works on new HS with staff, architect SISD Bond Advisory Committee

Salado ISD is set to open the new high school on Williams Rd. for the 2026-27 school year.

The district, working with architectural firm  PBK, construction manager at-risk Bartlett Cocke and a Bond Advisory Committee, will build a 250,000 sq. ft. two-story high school with a core capacity of 1,500 students and a classroom capacity of 1,000 students.
