October 16, Geraldine Alonzo — Mama — was born August 19, 1923 in Pontiac, Michigan, to Elda and Arthur Newmarch. She was so tiny, she wasn’t expected to live long. But Grandma put her on a hot water bottle, and somehow she fought and worked hard all her 97 years of living.
She passed away on October 16, 2020.
Ralph “Trey” Marion Rice III passed away on September 28, 2020 in Houston at the age of 60 due to complications from diabetes.
He was the sone of Ralph and Larrine Rice, born in Kenedy, Texas.
After a brave battle with several lengthy illnesses, Vesta Henderson Smith, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Salado, Texas, on September 19th, 2020, surrounded by her devoted family.
Born in Weslaco, Texas, Vesta grew up in south Texas and graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1951 at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School. She briefly attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos before eloping and marrying her high school sweetheart, Garry Smith, of Alamo, Texas in 1952.
Louis Milton Ivey was born October 14, 1946 to Nedro Harmon and Louis Milton Ivey, Sr., of Sparks, Texas. Louis graduated from Academy High School in 1965 where he played football, a life long love, baseball, and basketball, and distinguished himself academically.
No services are planned for Travis Kinsey 71, of Moody, and formerly of Salado.
Mr. Kinsey died, Friday, September 18, at a Temple hospital.
Frances Collins Cooper (known by all as “T9E”) died peacefully on September 6, 2020, with her husband, Mike, by her side. She was 80 years old. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. T9E was a true Texas lady who loved nothing more than to be surrounded by the people she loved and who loved her right back. She never met a stranger and was one of the world’s great conversationalists. She will be missed.
Frances was born on February 19, 1940, in Dallas, Texas to Burt Johnson Collins and Lucy Gowdey Collins. Her older sister, Lucy Ann, called Frances her “tee-niney” baby sister and in doing so gave her the one-of-a-kind nickname that she was known by her whole life – T9E. T9E’s family lived in Hearne for several years before moving to Waco in 1945 where T9E grew up. For the rest of her life, T9E could find in everyone she met a connection to Waco. T9E graduated from Waco High School in 1958 and went on to the University of Texas, Plan II on a Latin scholarship, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education. While on the 40 Acres, she was a Longhorn cheerleader and member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. It was also at UT that T9E met the love of her of her life, Michael Ross Cooper from Winslow, Mike and T9E married on June 16, 1962. While Mike attended UT Law School, T9E taught Latin at Allan Junior High School in Austin.
Charles Webb Abbitt was born May 25, 1920 in the pre-Civil War ancestral home on Gravel Knoll Farm near the Appomattox Surrender Grounds. “Big Dad” passed on to be with our Lord August 28, 2020.

The only child of Jack and Ida Ellis. Donald was born on January 17, 1931 in Warren, Ohio.

He graduated at age 16 from Appomattox Agriculture High School as Salutatorian and Class Prophet. He also learned to play mandolin and guitar in groups with his brothers.

Louis had a long and fascinating corporate career in Information Technology beginning in 1965 with LTV Corp, University Computing Company, Republic National Bank, Dallas, First City Bank of Texas, Houston. In 1987, Louis moved to Philadelphia to head up the IT Division of PFSF Bank. EDS acquired that IT Division in 1989 and Louis was moved to EDS Plano. The ensuing years took him back to Philadelphia and New Jersey, New York City, back to Plano three different times, Houston, Colorado, and Australia, then back to Plano before he retired from EDS in March 2006.
Louis and his wife of forty-five years, Tricia, settled in Salado, Texas for the next twelve years, where he was an active member of St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church. Louis and Tricia raised horses and longhorn cattle on their ranch. A gregarious and fun-loving man, Louis loved to tell a story, negotiate a deal, and spend time with family and friends.
