Three candidates have filed for two full two-year terms on the Salado Public Library District Board of Directors: Susan Starnes, Nancy Mills Mackey and Theresa Howard.

Salado Village Voice asked the following questions.

Question 1: What are the values you will bring to the Library board of trustees, if elected, and how will they make an impact? (200 words)

Question 2: Is there an appropriate level/number of staff in the Library? Too many? Too few? If this is identified as being an issue, how can this be addressed by the Board? (200 words)

Question 3: Would you support reducing the half-cent sales tax the Library collects? Why or why not? (200 words)

Question 4: With the mistakes that were made regarding the Library election, which disenfranchised almost 100 potential voters in the district on the first day, will you challenge the election if you lose within that margin? Why or why not? (200 words)

The Village of Salado will elect a Mayor to a two-year term on May 7. Mayor Michael Coggin filed for a position on the ballot. Linda Reynolds has filed as a write-in candidate.

Five candidates have filed for two full three year terms on the Salado Independent School District Board of Trustees: Jim Reed, Sam Dowdy, Jr., Rick Marruffo, Amy McLane and Marlon Reed.

Question 2: A petition for disannexation of property that includes Sanctuary was presented to the Village of Salado, resulting in another disannexation election in November 2022. Do you support or oppose disannexation of the proposed area? Why? (200 words)

Question 3: What is your opinion of the Village parks? (200 words)

Question 4: What is your opinion of the Village municipal building? (200 words)

Question 5: What is your opinion of the Village Tourism department and Visitor Center? (200 words)

Salado Eagles to face Giddings in bi-district baseball

Salado varsity Eagles will face 20-4A District Champion Giddings Buffaloes in the bi-district round of the UIL baseball playoffs in a best-of-three series.

The first game will be played in Giddings at 7 p.m. May 6. Game two will be played at noon May 7 at Salado. If necessary, game three will be played 30 minutes following game two.

Giddings finished the regular season with an overall record of 17-9-0 and a district record of 8-2.

Ninth-inning shot launches Lady Eagles over Smithville

Lexi Dudeczka’s ninth-inning shot to deep center launched the Lady Eagles to the Area round of the 4A softball playoffs with a walk-off triple against the #11 Smithville Lady Tigers April 27.

The Lady Eagles swept Smithville in the double header of the bi-district best-of-three series.

Salado is third place team in District 19-4A

Salado Lady Eagles face the #11 Smithville Lady Tigers in the bi-district rounds of the 4A UIL Softball playoffs. The teams face up in a best-of-three series that began with a double header April 27 at Hutto High School (in games played after presstime for this edition. The first game will be held at 5:30 p.m. with the second game 30 minutes after the end of game one. A third game, if necessary, will be held May 2 at a location to be determined.
