Empty Bowl Project set for Nov. 12

Salado Family Relief annual Empty Bowl Project is scheduled 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Salado Middle School.

Soups provided by local area restaurants including Johnny’s, Lively Coffee House, McCain’s, Chupacabra Kitchen, Cathy’s Cafe, The Shoppes on Main, Rio Salado, The Pizza Place, The Shed and Alexander’s Craft Cocktails + Kitchen and The Barton House.

Bowls created by the Salado High School Art Department and local artists including Titia Califano.

$12 Soup Only

$22 for Soup and Handmade Bowl

$22 for Large Soup to Go (32 oz. container)

Proceeds benefit Salado Family Relief Fund, which has provided Christmas gifts to economically disadvantaged children in Salado since 1992.

You can add to your collection or start one on Nov. 12 during the Empty Bowl. Titia Califano has worked with potters from the state to provide handmade bowls for the soup lunch which will be 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Salado Middle School cafeteria. Southland Marketing and Development, Inc. marketed and conducted a one-day Land Sale for a 1,000+ acre development off of FM 2843 just west of Mustang Creek Ranch on property formerly owned by Double B Wildlife Ranch.

Fundraiser set Oct. 15 for Salado native Tom Gidley Jr.

Friends are family are uniting around Salado native Tom Gidley, Jr. who is fighting cancer.

Steven Jackson, who grew up with Tom and went all 12 grades in Salado schools with him, is working with other classmates and lifelong friends for a fundraiser at Jack’s Barn, 525 Pace Park Rd. on Oct. 15.

Local man seeks bone marrow transplant for multiple sclerosis

The long-time Saladoan is seeking a specialized treatment not currently available in the United States to halt the progression of the multiple sclerosis that he was diagnosed with several years ago. The treatment is a bone marrow transplant that utilizes the patient’s own hematopoietic stem cells rather than the marrow of a matching donor.

In layman’s terms, the hematopoietic stems cells are harvested from the person and are used to restore the normal hematopoiesis of the patient after that patient has been exposed to high dose chemotherapy delivered to aim immunosuppression.

Aldermen give go-ahead on Quick Trip development

Salado aldermen July 21 unanimously approved pursuing a development agreement with QT South LLC relating to the annexation of a 5.87 acre tract of land located at the northwest corner of the FM 2484 and I-35.

The Oklahoma based company is proposing to construct a Quick Trip Travel Center on a vacant tract of land currently located in the Village of Salado’s E-T-J.

Aldermen reject Disannexation Election Petition

Salado aldermen unanimously approved a resolution rejecting a Petition for Disannexation of Land at their July 21 meeting. John Newman threatened litigation through a letter distributed to the board on July 21.

Free Concert on Main

To kick off the start of Salado’s Music Friendly Community journey, a free concert will be held for the public 6:30 p.m. July 28 featuring Kristyn Harris at the Salado Civic Center Gazebo. There will be food trucks on the grounds: Rossler’s Blue Cord BBQ, Bob’s Best Corndogs, Sunnie Life Sno Cones and Happy Hut. Bring your own chair to sit in the shade of the giant oaks around the Lions Club Gazebo on the grounds of the Salado Civic Center. No alcohol is allowed on the property. Kristyn Harris (above) is noted for her shimmering vocals, solid swing rhythm guitar style, unique songwriting, award winning yodel, and captivating stage presence. At 27 years, she is the youngest person in history to be awarded the International Western Music Association Entertainer of the Year, which she received four years in a row (2016-2019), and her latest album was most recently awarded the prestigious Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. BoA to discuss annexation, disannexation election

Salado aldermen will discuss at their 6:30 p.m. July 21 meeting annexation and disannexation of properties on opposite ends of the Village.

The board will discuss a development agreement with QT South LLC for the development of 5.87 acres of land located at the northwest corner of the intersection of FM 2484 and I-35.

Mayoral candidates on values, administration

The Village of Salado will elect a Mayor to a two-year term on May 7. Mayor Michael Coggin filed for a position on the ballot. Linda Reynolds has filed as a write-in candidate.

We asked the following question:

Library candidates on programs, services of Salado Library

Three candidates have filed for two full two-year terms on the Salado Public Library District Board of Directors: Susan Starnes, Nancy Mills Mackey and Theresa Howard.

Salado Village Voice asked the following questions.
