Eagles beat Bandera in overtime to win Rockport-Fulton basketball tournament
Josh Goings grabbed a missed free throw by Bandera’s Liam DeMarchi with less than a minute left in overtime of the Salado Eagles’ Championship game in the Rockport-Fulton basketball tournament, drove the length of the court and hit Darius Wilson under the basket to put the Eagles up 49-47. With less than half a minute left in overtime, Goings hit the front end of a one-and-one to put Salado up 50-47.

Eagles take second in Academy basketball tournament
Salado Eagles took second place in the Academy basketball tournament in December, losing to Waco Connally, 60-45, in the final game Dec. 11. The Eagles lost to Rogers, 50-45, last week in a non-conference game.

Salado Varsity Eagles won the Coach Smith basketball tournament, bouncing back from a close loss at home to Wimberly.

Salado Eagles allowed Wimberly to score 28 points in the fourth quarter for a come-from-behind win Nov. 30. The Texans led 16-12 after the first and 34-28 at the half before Salado rallied for a 28-point third quarter to lead 56-44 going into the fourth.
Josh Goings led Salado with a double-double of 24 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and a deflection. Brady Ihler also had a double-double, scoring 19 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and contributing 2 assists.

Eagles cruise past Smithville
Salado Eagles blew out the Smithville Tigers 66-41 in the bi-district round of the UIL 4A boys basketball playoffs Feb. 20.
They face the Connally Cadets, a team they beat 55-45 Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at Lorena High School in the Area round (after presstime for this edition).
