After 40 years, it looks like Texas coaching legend Tom Westerberg is heading back to his hometown Salado.
Superintendent Michael Novotny told Salado Village Voice that Salado ISD trustees will meet 4:30 p.m. March 4 to hear his recommendation to hire Westerberg as the Head Football Coach of the Salado Eagles, a team he played for as quarterback 40 years ago.

Salado Mayor Michael Coggin reached forward on the dais of the Village of Salado Board of Aldermen during their Jan. 20 meeting and held up a dollar bill.
He then proposed that the Village establish a Public Improvement District for the Sanctuary for a total of that $1, with a tax rate of 0.000000001¢ per $100 valuation. “This should complete our obligations with the PID Sanctuary agreements,” he said.

Following a three-day closure of the schools, Salado ISD reported on the first day back to class that there are 40 active cases of COVID-19 in the district.

Village of Salado Mayor Michael Coggin filed for re-election to the position on the first day of filing Jan. 19.
Filing for local races, including Village of Salado Mayor and Aldermen, Salado ISD Board of Trustees and Salado Public Library District Board of Directors began on Jan. 19 and will end Feb. 18.
Jim Franz took the reins of the Salado Fire Department on Jan. 1 as its first full-time Fire Chief, marking the transition from a fully volunteer organization to a hybrid organization that will have full-time staff to support the more than 20 volunteer first responders.
The Village of Salado has announced the addition of two new employees to the Village staff.
Linda Griffith came out the front door of her house on San Juan wearing a mask.
“It’s not what you think,” she said. “It’s that I can’t breathe since they started all of this…”
Her words stop as she points to the large mounds of rock and dirt piled just beyond her property line on the Sanctuary North tract on which work began in earnest last month.

Two candidates have filed early in the race for Bell County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace: incumbent Cliff Coleman and Richard Sapp.
The two may be familiar to local Republicans as they faced each other in the 2018 Republic party primary. Coleman won the primary 1,099 to 1,047 and was unopposed in the general election.
Filing for March 2022 political party primaries continues until 6 p.m. Dec. 13.
