The long-time Saladoan is seeking a specialized treatment not currently available in the United States to halt the progression of the multiple sclerosis that he was diagnosed with several years ago. The treatment is a bone marrow transplant that utilizes the patient’s own hematopoietic stem cells rather than the marrow of a matching donor.
In layman’s terms, the hematopoietic stems cells are harvested from the person and are used to restore the normal hematopoiesis of the patient after that patient has been exposed to high dose chemotherapy delivered to aim immunosuppression.

The Salado Eagles hosted the Academy Bumblebees in a Homecoming match-up that featured two teams with a mirror-image offensive philosophy. The only noticeable difference was Academy’s Quarterback Kasey Mraz is a lefty. A packed Eagles Stadium was rocking as these two rivals, whose stadiums sit about 10 miles apart as the eagle flies, squared off in an east Bell County showdown.

Salado High School crowned its 2022 Homecoming King and Queen during the halftime of the Salado Eagles football game against the Academy Bees on Sept 16. Tyler Anderson was named as Homecoming King, with Amy Ortiz named Homecoming Queen. For photos of all the nominees and their escorts and Homecoming Court underclassmen, turn to page 4C this edition. Davie Lynn Zak, 50, of Salado, passed away on September 13,2022 after a long battle of MS with her family by her side.
Willicene Kathryn (Gundram) Lewis , age 97, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Stoney Brook Assisted Living in Belton, Texas.
Salado Varsity Lady Eagles hosted Academy Sept. 6.
In a rematch from mid- August where Salado won 2-0, the Lady Bees of Academy came into Salado with a 16-9 record and winners of 8 of their last 9 matches, but would come back down to earth against the Lady Eagles.

A game which started out looking like a Salado Eagles romp ended up being more like a late-November heavyweight playoff match-up. The Malakoff Tigers, ranked #7 in Class 3A, rallied from a two touchdown fourth quarter deficit to pull out a thrilling 29-27 Double Overtime win over Salado Friday at Panther Stadium in Hewitt.
